Connections and Conflicts

I am continually astonished by the resonances between the concepts, content and scholars I encounter in my different classes. This non-textual Something New charts a few of the most prominent connections—and conflicts—that I have noticed between Humanities and my other courses, as represented by my notes and readings from each class. Some relationships are grounded in my courses’ content, some in the scholars I have encountered, others in examples cited across courses, and still others in more abstract, creative or formal ways. No matter its foundation, each connection has encouraged me to read carefully and think beyond disciplinary and ontological boundaries. They remind me that my classes do not exist in isolation: instead, they converse across time and space with the world to which they—and, they remind me, I—belong.

The web centers my Humanities readings and notes. Classes from my first semester, Metaphysics, and Environmental Social Sciences, occupy the right side; Contemporary American Cinema and my Environmental Science research seminar from this semester fill the left. Between the course contents stretch red and blue strings, which denote conflicts and connections, respectively. Sticky notes next to the strings briefly describe those conflicts and connections. In general, sticky notes are attached to the Humanities readings rather than other courses.
